Aakash Chopra Dismisses Rumours of Washington Sundar’s Move to CSK

Aakash Chopra believes Washington Sundar will stay with Gujarat Titans and is unlikely to join Chennai Super Kings before the IPL 2026 auction.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes Washington Sundar will remain with Gujarat Titans despite reports linking him to Chennai Super Kings before the IPL 2026 auction. Sundar had limited chances in IPL 2025 but is said to be happy with the team culture in Gujarat.

With Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from the IPL, CSK are exploring options for a suitable replacement, and Sundar’s name has surfaced due to his Chennai roots and similar skill set. However, Chopra feels Gujarat Titans are unlikely to release the all-rounder, given his versatility with both bat and ball.

“Another news that came was whether Washington Sundar can go to CSK. He told (Ravichandran) Ashwin that he doesn’t have any such plans. I don’t think he will go, although Washi has got less chances. Washi mentioned that as well that he didn’t get enough chances, but he said that he likes the atmosphere and the setup, and that he doesn’t want to go,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“However, if Ashwin has gone, Washi Sundar will fit in seamlessly in his place, and he is from Chennai as well. However, I don’t think the Gujarat Titans will leave him that easily. I don’t think that’s happening,” he added.

Rahul’s Move Could Strengthen KKR’s Core

Aakash Chopra also believes KL Rahul’s possible transfer to Kolkata Knight Riders could resolve several of the team’s current issues. Rahul, who can open, keep wickets, and lead the side, fits the profile KKR is reportedly seeking ahead of IPL 2026.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are said to be interested in a potential swap involving Rinku Singh, though KKR may hesitate to release one of their key finishers. Chopra noted that KKR might target Rahul if they fail to secure Sanju Samson.

“There was news about KL Rahul that he could actually go to KKR. KKR will be very happy. If they don’t get Sanju (Samson), they can get KL Rahul. He can come and open, captain, and keep. Their many problems can be solved if they get a keeper-batter of Sanju or KL Rahul’s level,” Chopra said.

“However, they cannot give any player to anyone. Whom will they offer to Delhi? Delhi might be slightly interested if they offer Rinku Singh, but will KKR release Rinku? That’s a big question, although they didn’t use him that well,” he concluded.
