Aiden Markram “Grateful” After LSG Retention for IPL 2026

Aiden Markram expressed his gratitude after being retained by the Lucknow Super Giants for the 2026 Indian Premier League season.

South African cricketer Aiden Markram has said he is relieved and grateful after being retained by the Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2026 season. Markram had a strong individual performance in IPL 2025, scoring 445 runs in 13 matches.

He maintained an average of 34.23 and a strike rate of 148.83. His season included five half-centuries. He also contributed with his bowling, taking four wickets.

In a video released by the franchise, Markram shared his thoughts on the retention. “Yeah, it’s great. I really enjoyed my time with the Lucknow franchise last year. I made some really good friendships and enjoyed just a few months together with the squad. So, I’m very grateful to be retained and obviously looking forward to another season with them,” Markram said.

He believes the team was close to succeeding last year. Despite finishing seventh and missing the playoffs, Markram remains optimistic for the next season.

LSG’s Retention Strategy for 2026

“Before you know it, you’ve qualified for the knockout. So, definitely not overcomplicating anything. I think trying to do the things we did well, try to redo those things and win a couple more crunch moments. Before you know it, I think the competition looks really promising for us,” he added.

The Lucknow Super Giants recently announced their retention list for the upcoming season. The franchise retained 17 players from its previous squad.

Key retained players include overseas stars Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran. The team also kept Rishabh Pant, trade-in Mohammed Shami, Mayank Yadav, Abdul Samad, and Mitchell Marsh.

The franchise released several big names, including David Miller, Ravi Bishnoi, Shamar Joseph, and Akash Deep.

Lucknow now has six slots left to fill in the mini-auction. This includes four spots for overseas players. The team has a remaining purse of ₹22.95 crore to build a stronger squad for IPL 2026.
