Aiden Markram Leaves IPL 2026 Midway To Fly Back To South Africa For Personal Reason

Aiden Markram Leaves IPL 2026 Midway As LSG Star Flies Back To South Africa For Personal Reason

Aiden Markram has left IPL 2026 midway and returned to South Africa for personal reasons, leaving Lucknow Super Giants without one of their key overseas batters for the final two matches.

Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback ahead of the final phase of IPL 2026, with South African batter Aiden Markram set to miss the franchise’s remaining league matches due to personal reasons.

Reports suggest that Markram has travelled back to South Africa as he and his wife, Nicole Daniella O’Connor, are expecting their first child. The Proteas batter is expected to miss Lucknow’s upcoming clashes against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.

The absence comes at a difficult time for LSG, who are aiming to end a disappointing campaign on a positive note despite already being knocked out of the playoff race.

Markram’s Mixed IPL 2026 Campaign With Lucknow Super Giants

Aiden Markram endured an inconsistent IPL 2026 season after being shifted down the batting order. The South African enjoyed a strong IPL 2025 campaign as an opener, where he scored 445 runs at a strike rate of 148.83 while forming a successful opening partnership with Mitchell Marsh.

During that season, Markram registered five half-centuries and recorded a highest score of 66, making it his most productive IPL season so far.

However, IPL 2026 saw a tactical reshuffle within the Lucknow setup. With Josh Inglis returning to the squad after missing the first half of the tournament, Markram moved into the middle order. The role change affected his consistency as he managed only 231 runs at a strike rate of 138.32, with a best score of 45.

LSG Look To Finish Strong Despite Elimination

Lucknow Super Giants have struggled throughout IPL 2026 and currently sit at the bottom of the points table with just eight points from 12 matches. Despite possessing a quality bowling attack under Rishabh Pant’s leadership, repeated batting failures have cost them crucial games this season.

Even though LSG are officially eliminated, their final two fixtures carry huge significance in the playoff race. Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings are both still fighting for qualification, meaning Lucknow could play a decisive role in shaping the top-four standings.

The franchise will also be unable to sign a replacement for Markram because IPL regulations prohibit teams from adding replacement players after completing their 12th league match. As a result, players like Matthew Breetzke or all-rounder George Linde are expected to step into the playing XI for the remaining games.
