Despite having struggled against Ravi Bishnoi in the past, scoring just eight runs off 12 balls in previous IPL 2026 meetings, Rahul turned the tables in this encounter.

He attacked his former Lucknow Super Giants teammate with confidence, smashing 26 runs off just nine deliveries, including two boundaries and two sixes. Rahul eventually remained unbeaten on 75 off 41 balls at a striking rate of 187.50, guiding DC to a crucial win.

Ambati Rayudu Highlights KL Rahul’s Mindset Shift

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu credited Rahul’s performance to a significant change in his mindset and approach at the crease. He pointed out how Rahul’s willingness to take risks against spin has transformed his game this season.

“He [Rahul] has always had the game. He can take on any bowler at any time; it is just his mindset. Today we have seen a very, very good approach to his batting. He went through a couple of shots against Bishnoi because he was sure that Bishnoi had the pace, and he could just stand in the crease and still go through with the shot. That shot was still not on, a slightly good-length or short-of-a-length ball, which he hit straight for six. That shows that the wicket was good, and also KL’s confidence in his batting and a change in the way he generally bats,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo Time Out.

“These are the balls that he generally does not take in and it is a great sign that he is taking on these lengths and deliveries against spin. That is why we are seeing him play such higher strike-rates in this tournament compared to few other seasons.”

Rahul’s consistency has been a major highlight this season, as he currently leads the run charts with 433 runs in nine matches, including three fifties and a century. More notably, his strike rate of 185.83 marks a significant improvement compared to previous editions.

After receiving the Player-of-the-Match award, Rahul addressed the long-standing criticism around his strike rate and revealed that it has been a key area of focus.

“The strike rate was a big talking point for a few years. That’s something that I’ve really worked on. I’m happy that I’ve worked on that and I’m doing what’s required for the team, number one, and doing what modern T20 cricket requires. And yeah, that’s something that’s pleasing for me.” Rahul said after winning the Player-of-the-Match award.

KL Rahul has significantly transformed his batting approach in IPL 2026, shifting from a traditional anchor role to a high-intent, aggressive style. Between 2022 and 2025, during his stint with Lucknow Super Giants and early phase with Delhi Capitals.

Then, his strike rate ranged between 113 and 150, often attracting criticism for slow starts. His strike rates during this period stood at 113.22 in 2023, 136.13 in 2024, and 149.72 in 2025, reflecting a cautious approach at the top.

However, IPL 2026 has marked a dramatic turnaround, with Rahul adopting a fearless, power-hitting mindset. Now, he has scored 433 runs in nine matches at a staggering strike rate of 185.83, leading the Orange Cap race.

His unbeaten 152 off 67 balls against Punjab Kings, at a strike rate of 226.86, underlined this evolution. With clearer role definition and focus on intent, Rahul has moved away from his conservative style, embracing the demands of modern T20 cricket.
