BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit has prohibited smart sunglasses inside IPL match zones after raising concerns over their live-streaming and communication capabilities.
The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has introduced another strict regulation during IPL 2026, this time banning the use of smart sunglasses by players, support staff, and match officials inside designated match areas.
In a fresh advisory sent to all IPL franchises, the Board stated that several companies had recently started marketing smart sunglasses to cricketers and team staff members. However, the ACSU raised concerns regarding the advanced technological features available in such devices.
“Kindly note that these devices are equipped with advanced communication features, including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling capabilities through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks,”
The Board further clarified that such gadgets fall under prohibited categories inside the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA).
“Accordingly, under the PMOA Minimum Standards, such goggles/glasses are classified both as an ‘Audio/Video Recording Device’ and a ‘Communication Device’.”

Smart Devices Strictly Prohibited Inside PMOA
The ACSU reiterated that smart sunglasses cannot be carried or used inside restricted IPL operational zones during match days. The latest move comes as part of the Board’s effort to tighten anti-corruption and security measures during the tournament.
“It is hereby notified that the possession and/or use of ‘Smart Goggles’ is strictly prohibited within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA),”
As per the revised protocol, players and support staff have now been instructed to deposit smart sunglasses alongside other electronic gadgets before entering the restricted areas.
“All players and support staff are directed to deposit such devices with the Security Liaison Officer (SLO), along with their mobile phones and smartwatches, upon entering the PMOA on match days,”
The BCCI also warned franchises and players that failure to comply with the regulation could invite disciplinary action.
“Failure to deposit such devices shall be deemed a breach of the PMOA protocols and may result in penalties under the PMOA Minimum Standards for IPL 2026,”
IPL 2026 Witnessing Multiple Security And Conduct Crackdowns
IPL 2026 has already seen several instances of disciplinary and security-related concerns. Earlier in the season, Rajasthan Royals’ Romi Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh and handed a warning after being spotted using a mobile phone inside the dugout during a live match.

Following multiple incidents this season, the BCCI had already implemented stricter movement and conduct rules for players and support staff. The Board restricted late-night outings without prior approval from security officials and also barred guests from entering players’ hotel rooms due to safety concerns and possible honey-trap risks.
The latest restriction on smart sunglasses is another addition to the BCCI’s growing list of security protocols aimed at protecting the integrity of the IPL.
