Chinnaswamy’s IPL 2026 Hosting For RCB Still Uncertain Despite Government Nod: Reports

RCB Gets Conditional Nod to Host IPL Matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium

RCB awaits unconditional clearance for Chinnaswamy Stadium as infrastructure upgrades keep Bengaluru’s IPL matches in doubt.

The future of Indian Premier League matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru remains uncertain despite the Karnataka government granting initial permission to host games. While the green signal has been issued, the final clearance is still not confirmed, keeping Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in wait.

Sources indicate that discussions are ongoing between the three key stakeholders — RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the state government. A senior KSCA official admitted that clarity is still lacking. “You have to speak to RCB,” the official said. “The KSCA has got the government permission to host the IPL matches. However, all the works to be undertaken and completed are under progress and will be completed as per schedule.”

The KSCA recently confirmed that extensive infrastructure and safety upgrades are underway at the stadium. Several spectator gates and access points are being dismantled and widened, along with other key improvements, in line with recommendations made by an Expert Committee and statutory authorities. The association expects the work to be completed by the end of the month.

RCB Seeks Unconditional Clearance

However, RCB is reportedly seeking an unconditional clearance rather than a conditional approval, especially in light of the tragic incident that occurred on June 4, 2025. The franchise wants firm assurances before committing to host matches in Bengaluru. As a precaution, RCB has conducted a recce in Raipur and is exploring the option of staging matches at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium.

The delay has also impacted the broader IPL 2026 schedule. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce the fixtures, partly due to pending Assembly election dates in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Traditionally, the IPL schedule is planned around election timelines. The uncertainty surrounding the readiness of the Chinnaswamy Stadium has further complicated matters.
