CSK openers for IPL 2026 have been confirmed, with Ruturaj Gaikwad naming Sanju Samson as his partner ahead of the March 28 season start.

The openers for IPL 2026 remained a key talking point before the season. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ayush Mhatre and Sanju Samson were expected to fill the top 3 roles, with Mhatre opening with Samson.
However, while speaking to a Star Sports presenter, Gaikwad confirmed the opening pair for the first match. He chose himself and Sanju Samson to start the innings.

“Rutu and Sanju”, Gaikwad answered when the presenter asked him about CSK’s openers for IPL 2026.
Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad was likely to bat at No. 3 as in 2025. The plan has now changed, with Mhatre batting at No. 3 for the team. Mhatre has also played at No. 3 during the U19 World Cup 2026.
CSK’s middle order also offers strong options. Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis can rotate at No. 4 and No. 5. Meanwhile, the lower order includes Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. MS Dhoni adds experience and finishing strength to the lineup.
