Shubman Gill Leads GT to 5-Wicket Win Over KKR in IPL 2026

Shubman Gill’s magnificent century and a brutal opening stand with Sai Sudharsan powered Gujarat Titans into the IPL 2026 final with a dominant seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals.

Gujarat Titans stormed into the IPL 2026 final after defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 at New Chandigarh on May 29. Chasing a daunting target of 215, GT completed the chase in just 18.4 overs, riding on a sensational hundred from skipper Shubman Gill and another explosive contribution from Sai Sudharsan.

Rajasthan Royals earlier posted 214/6 after a breathtaking innings from teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a late assault from Donovan Ferreira. However, GT’s top order dismantled the Royals bowling attack in a one-sided chase.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Donovan Ferreira Lift RR To 214

Rajasthan Royals had a shaky start after losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel inside the first two overs. But Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again delivered a fearless knock, smashing 96 off just 47 balls with eight boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate above 200.

The left-handed batter stitched important partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja and kept RR alive despite wickets falling regularly at the other end. Jadeja battled through discomfort to remain unbeaten on 45 from 35 balls.

The real carnage arrived in the final over when Donovan Ferreira tore apart Rashid Khan. The South African smashed four sixes in the over and remained unbeaten on 38 from only 11 deliveries as RR collected 27 runs from the final six balls to cross the 200-run mark. Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each for Gujarat Titans.

Gill And Sudharsan Tear RR Apart In Massive Chase

The chase belonged entirely to Gujarat Titans’ opening pair. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan produced a stunning 167-run opening partnership in only 12.5 overs, completely taking the game away from Rajasthan Royals.

Sudharsan hammered 58 off 32 balls before suffering an unfortunate hit-wicket dismissal. Gill, however, continued his masterclass and brought up a magnificent century off just 47 balls. The GT skipper eventually departed for 104 off 53 deliveries, smashing 15 fours and three sixes.

Washington Sundar added a quickfire 16, while Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten on 17 to finish the chase comfortably with eight balls remaining.

With this commanding victory, Gujarat Titans became only the fourth team in IPL history to reach the final after winning Qualifier 2. After the heartbreak against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1, GT responded in emphatic style.
