In the latest development, the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals have appointed former England star Ian Bell as an assistant coach.
Ian Bell was welcomed into the coaching setup ahead of the IPL 2026 season, where he will play a key role in shaping things for the Capitals. In the 2025 season, Delhi Capitals finished fifth on the points table, largely due to chronic batting collapses that plagued the team throughout the group-stage matches.
Nevertheless, to address the top-and middle-order batting issues, Ian Bell, the experienced England veteran, has been brought into the coaching setup by the franchise.

The official announcement was made via Delhi Capitals’ social media handles as the team continues to chase its maiden IPL title after several years of struggle in the tournament.

Interestingly, Matthew Mott is currently the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, and there is yet to be any confirmation on whether Bell will replace Mott or if both will work together as assistant coaches for the 2026 season.
Alongside Mott and Bell, Hemang Badani is the head coach of the team, with Munaf Patel appointed as the bowling coach. Venugopal Rao serves as the director of cricket for Delhi Capitals, while Kevin Pietersen acts as the team mentor for the 2026 season.
