The first incident occurred in the 18th over at 17.2 when the umpires changed the ball. David delayed returning it despite repeated instructions. A similar situation followed in the 20th over at 19.2, where he again failed to hand over the ball. Officials treated both actions as violations under Article 2.4.

David accepted the charge and agreed to the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya also faced a penalty. He was fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate, marking the team’s first offense under Article 2.22 in IPL 2026.
