Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium will continue to host all IPL 2026 matches, ending doubts about a venue shift after the recent RCB celebration stampede tragedy. Speaking at the stadium after voting in the KSCA elections, he stressed that hosting the IPL is a matter of pride for Karnataka and Bengaluru.
Shivakumar said the state will take strong measures to improve safety, manage crowds effectively and preserve the stadium’s reputation. He also indicated that Karnataka is ready to host upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup fixtures. He added that plans are underway to develop a larger alternate stadium while ensuring Chinnaswamy remains a central venue for major matches.

“This is a matter of respect for the state of Karnataka and Bengaluru. We will take steps to ensure that the next IPL matches are held here. We will allow whatever matches are available in the coming days. I am a member of the KSCA. When I was young, Nagaraj gave me a membership. His son is my classmate. I know many people from Brijesh Patel, including Anil Kumble and Prasanna. I voted for the ones I wanted,” he said.
“We will take care that the recent disaster does not happen again and ensure that the stadium’s dignity remains. The stadium will be developed by managing the crowd within the legal framework. In addition, we will build a bigger stadium as an alternative,” Shivakumar added.
