Pat Cummins will miss the early phase of the IPL 2026 due to a back issue. SRH have appointed Ishan Kishan as captain for IPL 2026, with Abhishek Sharma as deputy.
Cummins featured in only 1 match during the 5-Test Ashes 2025-26 and missed the T20 World Cup. The franchise looked for a reliable leader and Kishan has emerged as a strong option. He recently led Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title and contributed to India’s T20 World Cup win. He also captained India A in several assignments. Abhishek will assist in leadership before returning to a specialist opener role alongside Travis Head.
