Jos Buttler Supports Kyle Jamieson After Fiery Celebration Against 15-Year-Old Star

Jos Buttler backed Kyle Jamieson’s fiery send-off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, saying the youngster’s batting has rattled bowlers.

Jos Buttler defended Kyle Jamieson over his aggressive send-off after dismissing 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026. Speaking on the “For the Love of Cricket” podcast, Buttler said the reaction became a major talking point mainly because of the batter’s age.

The incident happened during Rajasthan Royals’ defeat to Delhi Capitals last week. Jamieson celebrated in front of Sooryavanshi after dismissing him for 4 and later received a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Buttler said the teenager’s fearless batting has forced bowlers to treat him like any other dangerous player. The England batter also joked that Jamieson probably laughed later about getting so emotional after taking the wicket of a 15-year-old batter.

“I don’t know if it’s been big news. It’s not something I’ve seen a lot of. I saw him get him out and, you know, I think the fact that he is 15 is probably the thing that makes it so big, doesn’t it? But I would say Vaibhav hasn’t been showing any remorse to any of the bowlers for the fact that he’s only 15. It’s not like he’s only hitting twos and fours. He’s smashing bowlers into row Z. So the excitement when you get him out, I think, is justified, to be honest. He’s been playing that well, and he’s been that destructive,” he said.

“I’m sure Kyle Jamieson probably has a bit of a laugh when he’s back in his room thinking, ‘One of the most excited I’ve been and emotional I’ve been, and in the batter’s face I’ve been has been for a 15-year-old boy’,. But, you know, I think that’s the only mitigation, isn’t it? Other than that, he’s been one of the stars of the tournament. He’s been one of the most destructive players and, as I said, he’s not showing any remorse to the bowlers,” Buttler added.

Buttler Defends Emotional Celebrations in Cricket

Jos Buttler then opined that players should have the freedom to show passion in pressure situations and added that the reaction became a major talking point mainly because of Sooryavanshi’s age.

“So, fair play to him, and I’m sure you’ll be in that camp that we like to see emotion in the game, don’t you? You want to see a bit of enjoyment. Vaibhav’s playing men’s cricket as if he’s been one of the best players of the tournament. So, I think the fact that he is only 15 is kind of the only talking point there. Otherwise, it would just be a normal sort of celebration for a bowler,” he said.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Continues IPL 2026 Rise

The Rajasthan Royals youngster has emerged as one of the biggest stars of the season with fearless batting displays. He has scored 404 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 237.64 and remains among the top contenders for the Orange Cap.

Sooryavanshi smashed a 37-ball 103 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25, recording the fastest century of IPL 2026 and the third-fastest hundred in league history. He also leads the six-hitting charts with 37 maximums in 10 matches.

The teenager earlier blasted a 15-ball fifty against Chennai Super Kings and became the youngest player to reach 1,000 T20 runs in terms of balls faced.
