Kris Srikkanth Questions Riyan Parag’s RR Captaincy, Says ‘Treated Like King’

Kris Srikkanth criticised Riyan Parag’s appointment as Rajasthan Royals captain, questioning his recent form and leadership credentials ahead of IPL 2026.

Former India opener Kris Srikkanth questioned Riyan Parag’s appointment as Rajasthan Royals captain for IPL 2026. He hinted at favourable treatment without giving details.

The decision followed Sanju Samson’s move to Chennai Super Kings. Parag had earlier led the side during Samson’s injury. The squad includes Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel. However, none has significant captaincy experience. Jadeja briefly led CSK in IPL 2022 before a change.

“Everyone knows how he became the captain. That is their decision but he is treated like the king there. Parag didn’t have a good season last year, but the year before last, he did brilliantly. Last year, he didn’t do anything substantial,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.

Kris Srikkanth then assessed the Rajasthan Royals as unpredictable despite their strengths. He believes the team can defeat strong opponents but lacks consistency. He rated their playoff chances at 50-50 and ruled them out as title contenders.

“It’s a decent side. They have the potential to upset sides. But they are also a side that will self-destruct. Yet, if two in their top five click, they will smash the opposition. The Jaiswal-Suryavanshi opening stand is their biggest plus. They are capable of winning matches singlehandedly. So they are a good side but not a dangerous one. They are not a championship-winning side. They are 50-50 even for playoff qualification,” he added.
