MS Dhoni Future At CSK Remains Uncertain As CEO Kasi Viswanathan Breaks Silence On IPL 2027 Return

Suresh Raina Reveals MS Dhoni’s Honest Reply on IPL 2027 Return

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has finally addressed MS Dhoni’s future with Chennai Super Kings after the legendary skipper missed the entire IPL 2026 season due to injury concerns.

Chennai Super Kings endured a difficult beginning to their IPL 2026 campaign before recovering strongly with a series of important victories later in the season. However, despite the turnaround in performances, the absence of MS Dhoni remained the biggest talking point throughout the campaign.

For the first time in franchise history, CSK played an entire IPL season without Dhoni featuring in a single game. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter was ruled out because of persistent injury issues, including calf and finger concerns, which kept him away from competitive cricket for the whole season.

Several reports regarding Dhoni’s recovery and fitness surfaced during the tournament, but the veteran cricketer failed to return to the field, disappointing millions of CSK supporters.

CSK Management Leaves Final Decision To Dhoni

As Chennai Super Kings struggled to fill the leadership vacuum left by Dhoni, questions started emerging regarding the team’s future direction. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led the side during the season, failed to make a significant impact as captain, further intensifying discussions about whether Dhoni should return in some capacity.

Earlier during the season, head coach Stephen Fleming and members of the team management had clarified that any decision regarding Dhoni’s comeback would be entirely personal, with the franchise unwilling to interfere.

Now, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has echoed a similar stance while speaking about the veteran’s future with the franchise.

“See, we have not discussed anything with MS as of now. As you know, MS makes his decision on his own, and we respect that. We would always like to have him as a permanent fixture of CSK in whatever capacity, be it as a player, be it as a coach or a mentor, whatever he desires. Every decision depends on him,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said.

Kasi also hinted that Dhoni could continue with Chennai Super Kings in a non-playing role in the future, although no formal discussions have taken place yet regarding retirement or transition plans.

Dhoni’s Legacy Continues To Loom Large Over CSK

MS Dhoni remains the most successful and influential figure in Chennai Super Kings history. Under his leadership, the franchise won five IPL titles and established itself as one of the most dominant teams in the competition.

Dhoni captained CSK in 244 matches, winning 145 games while losing 96, giving him a remarkable win-loss ratio of 1.51.

In comparison, Ruturaj Gaikwad has so far led Chennai in 33 matches, managing only 14 victories with a win-loss ratio of 0.736.
