Mustafizur Rahman Faces Rs 9.20 Crore Loss After IPL 2026 Exit

Mustafizur Rahman will not receive compensation from KKR after his IPL 2026 release, with insurance rules not covering non-injury-related exits.

Mustafizur Rahman will not receive any payout after his removal from IPL 2026, following a directive issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Kolkata Knight Riders had secured Rahman for INR 9.20 crore at the auction. The board cited prevailing circumstances for the decision without outlining detailed reasons.

IPL insurance norms usually cover injuries sustained after joining team camps or during matches. Those provisions do not apply in Rahman’s case, as his exit was not injury-related or disciplinary. As a result, KKR carries no financial liability.

“The salaries of all IPL players are insured. For foreign international players, normally the franchise pays if they are injured after joining the camp or during the course of the tournament,” an IPL source said while speaking to PTI.

“Normally, up to 50 per cent is paid from insurance. It is better for India’s injured centrally contracted cricketers who normally get paid by the BCCI. In case of an insurance claim, this current situation is not covered, so KKR is under no official obligation to pay a penny. It is unfortunate, but Mustafizur does not have much option but to take a legal route and that too IPL comes under Indian law jurisdiction,” the source said,” the source added.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has also withdrawn Mustafizur Rahman’s No Objection Certificate for the IPL. The move further reduces his chances of compensation.

The incident has since grown into a diplomatic issue. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has asked the International Cricket Council to shift Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India to Sri Lanka.
