Nuwan Thushara Files Case Against Sri Lanka Cricket Over IPL 2026 NOC Denial

RCB pacer Nuwan Thushara takes legal action after Sri Lanka Cricket denies him an NOC for IPL 2026 participation.

Nuwan Thushara, the Sri Lankan pacer representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has reportedly taken legal action against Sri Lanka Cricket after being denied a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

The fast bowler was refused clearance due to not meeting the board’s fitness standards. However, Thushara has now approached the court seeking permission to participate in the tournament, challenging the board’s decision.

SLC Officials Named as Defendants

According to reports, Thushara has named key officials of Sri Lanka Cricket in his legal complaint, including President Shammi Silva, Secretary Bandula Dissanayake, Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva.

The matter is scheduled to be heard on April 9 at the Colombo District Court. Thushara has also informed the board of his decision not to renew his central contract, which was reportedly set to expire on March 31, signaling a potential move away from international cricket.

Player Claims Unfair Treatment and Career Impact

Thushara has argued that his fitness levels remain consistent with previous years, during which he was granted NOCs without issues. He reportedly considers the current decision unfair and inconsistent.

Additionally, the pacer has highlighted the financial and professional setback caused by missing out on IPL participation. Having been signed by RCB for ₹1.6 crore in 2025 and being part of their title-winning squad, Thushara believes the denial could significantly impact his career opportunities.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have started their IPL 2026 campaign on a positive note, securing a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening match.
