Ram Charan faced heavy trolling after mistakenly calling Jasprit Bumrah a footballer during a live event before issuing a public apology on social media.
Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah unexpectedly became the centre of a viral social media moment after actor Ram Charan mistakenly identified him as a footballer during a live promotional event.
The event featured several celebrities, including Janhvi Kapoor and A. R. Rahman, where Ram Charan was asked to describe famous personalities in one line.
When names like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were mentioned, the actor responded smoothly with praise and admiration.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Jasprit Bumrah’s name came up. Ram Charan mistakenly said, “Jasprit Bumrah ji, I am your biggest fan. I love football, and you are making us so proud by taking football forward and helping it grow around the world.”
The comment instantly confused fans online, as Bumrah is widely regarded as one of India’s greatest fast bowlers rather than a football personality.

Ram Charan Issues Public Apology To Bumrah
After the clip went viral across social media platforms, Ram Charan quickly addressed the mistake through his official X account and apologised to the Indian pacer.
“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up – it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd. I truly respect you and I am a huge fan of your game. You make every Indian feel proud when you consistently put batsmen on back foot,” Charan wrote on his social media handle of X.
Bumrah Endured Tough IPL 2026 Campaign
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL 2026 season with Mumbai Indians turned out to be one of the weakest campaigns of his career.
The Indian speedster managed only four wickets from 13 matches while maintaining an economy rate of 8.37. Despite continuing to bowl accurate yorkers and disciplined lengths, opposition batters looked unusually comfortable against him throughout the tournament.
Youngsters such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi even attacked Bumrah aggressively during the powerplay overs, something rarely seen in previous IPL seasons.

However, Bumrah bounced back strongly in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where he picked up 14 wickets in eight innings at an economy of 6.21 and once again proved his value on the international stage.
Mumbai Indians eventually finished ninth in IPL 2026 after winning just four matches, bringing a disappointing season to an end for the five-time champions.
