Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB) received conditional clearance to host IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium after talks with the Karnataka government, with final approval pending further review and meetings.
The RCB has moved closer to hosting IPL matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after receiving conditional clearance from the Karnataka government. The development followed a meeting involving officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association, RCB representatives, and Home Minister G Parameshwara. While final approval remains pending, authorities indicated a positive outlook, with further discussions scheduled later this week.
Cricket events at the venue had remained halted since June last year after a stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebrations led to 11 deaths and several injuries. The incident raised concerns over crowd control, security planning, and coordination, prompting restrictions on major events.
With the IPL approaching, KSCA and RCB reopened talks to restore matches under tighter safety conditions. KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad confirmed the association helped facilitate discussions with the state administration. A final decision is expected soon, as the BCCI prepares venue plans.

“We have been facilitating this meeting between RCB and the government. KSCA, from our side, we wanted to meet the government and all the officials, and we have done that. They have been very supportive, and they have guided us to make sure that we have these matches here. Today we brought the RCB representatives, and we had a very good meeting with the Home Minister,” the KSCA President said.
“We are extremely thankful to Parameshwar ji. And he promised us that he will have another meeting with the committee that he set up on the 12th to make sure that they give the decision to host the matches as soon as possible, because BCCI also needs to draw up the plan in terms of the venues, centres, publishing, and announcing the venue. Since RCB won the game last year in 2025, obviously, the inaugural ceremony has to happen here in Chinnaswamy Stadium. For that, we need the government’s permission, which the Home Minister has promised that he will make everything convenient after the meeting with the committee, the inaugural ceremony and all RCB matches,” he added.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara also said a final decision on hosting RCB IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium will be taken on Wednesday. Further discussions will involve officials from BBMP, the police, and legal departments. The review will assess all safety and logistical aspects before granting full clearance.
