Lucknow Super Giants director Tom Moody admitted the franchise may need a major reset after IPL 2026, with Rishabh Pant’s captaincy and batting form now under serious scrutiny.
Lucknow Super Giants are expected to undergo a major review following a disappointing IPL 2026 season, with global director of cricket Tom Moody admitting that the franchise failed to meet its own expectations.
Despite entering the tournament with strong ambitions, LSG endured one of the worst campaigns in franchise history. The side managed to win only four matches throughout the season and eventually finished in the bottom two of the IPL 2026 points table.
Following the defeat against Punjab Kings, Moody acknowledged that the team’s performances fell far below the standards expected within the camp and hinted that leadership changes could soon become a reality.
“From a captaincy point of view, you know, he’s found it challenging, obviously, and the results reflect that, and you do have to wonder whether that is a pressure that is reflected with his performance with the bat. I know that this season has been a difficult season for us, but we will reflect on it, we’ll take time, we’ll reflect on it. We’ll consider all things,” Moody was quoted as saying at the press conference after the loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Rishabh Pant’s Captaincy Future Under Serious Doubt
LSG skipper Rishabh Pant has now come under increasing pressure after another underwhelming season both as captain and batter.
Pant struggled to inspire the side throughout IPL 2026, while his own batting performances also failed to leave a major impact. Moody admitted that the pressure of leadership may have negatively affected Pant’s performances with the bat.
“But certainly we haven’t lived up to the expectation or the standard that we expect of ourselves. And certainly when it comes to the leadership of the franchise, it’s certainly something that we’ll be taking some very serious consideration to, you know, what it looks like in the future. Like every department, when you do reflect on a season, we will be making some considered decisions, but it certainly looks like that we’re needing to consider a reset,” he added.
The statement has now intensified speculation regarding whether LSG could appoint a new captain before IPL 2027.
Pant’s Batting Numbers Continue To Decline
Apart from leadership concerns, Pant’s batting form has also become a major talking point inside the franchise.
Once regarded as one of the most destructive batters in the IPL, the left-hander has struggled to rediscover his old consistency since joining Lucknow Super Giants.
Across two seasons with LSG, Pant has scored 581 runs at a strike rate of 135.74, numbers that fall short of the standards he established earlier in his IPL career.

With the franchise now openly discussing a possible “reset,” IPL 2027 could bring sweeping changes to the LSG setup, including a potential change in captaincy leadership.
