Romi Bhinder Likely To Escape Major Punishment Over Dugout Phone Use | Reports

RR vs MI IPL 2026: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 77 Powers RR to 27-Run Win in 11-Over Match

Romi Bhinder is likely to receive only a warning or fine from the BCCI after his dugout phone-use incident, with no serious breach found.

Romi Bhinder, the Rajasthan Royals team manager, is unlikely to face severe disciplinary action following an ongoing probe by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). The issue stems from Bhinder being spotted using a mobile phone near the players’ dugout during the Royals’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.

Although the act raised concerns due to strict anti-corruption protocols, early indications suggest that the punishment may be limited to a warning, fine, or minor reprimand rather than any suspension or ban.

No Malicious Intent Found, Health Condition Considered

A senior BCCI source indicated that the incident may not qualify as a serious breach. While Bhinder’s conduct was described as questionable, there appears to be no evidence of deliberate wrongdoing.

As per the source, “He also appears to have serious health issues. The ACSU will take the final call, but on the face of it, this does not seem to be a major violation,” the source said.

Bhinder reportedly responded to the notice within the stipulated 48-hour window, submitting medical records and a detailed explanation. He is also believed to have issued an apology. His long-standing health struggles, particularly severe lung complications, have played a role in shaping the board’s sympathetic stance.

Dugout Phone Usage Sparks Controversy

The controversy erupted after images showed Bhinder using a phone near the dugout area, seated alongside young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The visuals led to scrutiny over whether he had violated established protocols.

According to PMOA guidelines, team officials are permitted to use mobile phones strictly within the dressing room. Bhinder’s usage outside this designated zone triggered the inquiry, though it remains debated whether he was technically inside or outside the dugout at the time.

With the final decision pending, the case is expected to conclude without harsh penalties, reflecting both the absence of malicious intent and consideration of mitigating circumstances.
