Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets in Chennai to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs with one over remaining.
In a high-stakes IPL 2026 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down Chennai Super Kings’ total of 180/7 with five wickets to spare and one over remaining, sealing a memorable five-wicket win and booking their place in the playoffs.
CSK, winning the toss and electing to bat on a warm Chennai evening, got off to a quick start thanks to Sanju Samson, who smashed a 13-ball 27 studded with five fours and a six before Pat Cummins had him caught. Kartik Sharma provided the middle-order impetus with a brisk 32, and Dewald Brevis was the pick of the batters, scoring 44 off just 27 balls with four sixes. Shivam Dube chipped in with 26, but wickets fell at regular intervals as Cummins was the stand-out bowler for SRH, claiming 3/28 from four disciplined overs. CSK finished on a competitive but chaseable 180/7.

In response, SRH’s chase was anchored brilliantly by Ishan Kishan, who hit a patient yet explosive 70 off 47 balls, holding the innings together through the middle overs. Heinrich Klaasen provided the big-hitting firepower at No. 4, smashing 47 off 26 to put the game firmly in SRH’s control. Despite late wickets from Mukesh Choudhary and Anshul Kamboj creating some nerves, SRH crossed the line in the 19th over, reaching 181/5.
Certainly SRH played their best cricket on this pitch.
