Mumbai Indians batter and India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has dismissed rumours surrounding a wrist injury after an underwhelming IPL 2026 campaign.
Following Mumbai Indians’ disappointing exit from IPL 2026, speculation began circulating on social media regarding a possible wrist injury troubling Suryakumar Yadav.
Ahead of MI’s final league game against Rajasthan Royals, the Indian T20I skipper directly addressed the rumours and strongly denied carrying any injury.
Speaking to the broadcasters, Suryakumar said:
“First of all, I’d like to clear the air a little bit. The people talking about a wrist injury are either pure physios or people who don’t understand cricket.”
He further explained that his batting style itself disproves the rumours.
“Because if I really had a wrist injury or such a problem, then the shots I’ve been playing in practice and in matches, especially my flick shots, which are completely wrist-based and depend on hand-eye coordination, I wouldn’t have been able to play those shots.”
Tough IPL Season for Mumbai Indians and SKY
Mumbai Indians endured a forgettable IPL 2026 campaign, finishing near the bottom half of the table after managing only four wins in 14 matches. Suryakumar too struggled to produce his usual consistency with the bat throughout the season.
The poor performances led to increased scrutiny around his fitness, form, and even his future as India’s T20I captain. Several reports and fan discussions on social media had linked his dip in form to a potential wrist issue.
‘I Don’t Pay Too Much Attention’
Despite the noise around his performances and fitness, Suryakumar maintained that he prefers focusing only on factors within his control.
“But I don’t want to say much about that because it’s not in my control. These are all uncontrollable factors, and I don’t pay too much attention to them.”
The batter also stressed the importance of continuing to trust his process even during difficult phases in cricket.
Questions Around India T20I Future Continue
Although Suryakumar has publicly denied injury concerns, discussions regarding his role in India’s T20I setup continue after a difficult IPL season. Reports have suggested that selectors are evaluating long-term leadership options while monitoring his performances closely.
Still, the experienced batter remains one of India’s most explosive T20 players and will be eager to bounce back strongly in the upcoming international assignments.
