Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi revealed his ambitious plan to break Chris Gayle’s legendary T20 record by becoming the first player ever to score a double century in the format.

India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already created waves in junior cricket and IPL 2026 with his fearless strokeplay, but the 15-year-old is now dreaming even bigger.

The Rajasthan Royals youngster has openly stated that he wants to become the first batter in T20 cricket history to score a double century. His target is none other than Chris Gayle’s iconic unbeaten 175, which still stands as the highest individual score ever recorded in T20 cricket.

Gayle achieved the historic feat for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India during IPL 2013, and the record has remained untouched for over a decade.

Speaking during an interaction with former England captain Kevin Pietersen on The Switch, Sooryavanshi made his intentions crystal clear.

“I want to score 200 in T20,” Sooryavanshi told Pietersen on his YouTube show.

Teenager Wants To Break Chris Gayle’s Legendary 175

After Pietersen reminded him about Gayle’s long-standing record, the young batter confidently doubled down on his ambition to rewrite T20 history.

“Chris Gayle’s got 175,”

Pietersen told the youngster during the conversation. Sooryavanshi immediately responded with confidence and fearlessness.

“Yeah, I want to break his record and score 200.

“If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record.”

The bold statement has already generated huge excitement among fans, especially considering the explosive batting performances Sooryavanshi has delivered over the last year.

Why Sooryavanshi Believes The Record Is Possible

The youngster’s confidence is backed by an extraordinary run of performances in youth cricket. He had earlier smashed 190 runs for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and also hammered 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final.

His current highest T20 score is already 144, while his attacking batting style has drawn comparisons with some of India’s most destructive modern-day players.

Last year, Sooryavanshi blasted 143 runs against England U19 and reached his century in just 52 balls — the fastest hundred ever recorded in Youth ODI cricket. During the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup against UAE, he also registered the joint third-fastest T20 century by an Indian.

With fearless intent, remarkable confidence, and a growing list of jaw-dropping innings, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
