Virender Sehwag Calls RCB vs GT Final a ‘Straight 50-50’ Battle

Virender Sehwag Calls RCB vs GT Final a ‘Straight 50-50’ Battle

Virender Sehwag called the IPL 2026 final between RCB and GT a “straight 50-50” contest ahead of Ahmedabad final.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes Gujarat Titans will not enjoy a major advantage despite playing the IPL 2026 final at their home ground in Ahmedabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Speaking ahead of the title clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Sehwag described the match as a “straight 50-50” battle and praised RCB’s form throughout the tournament. He said Bengaluru have played exceptional cricket in recent weeks, making the final evenly balanced.

Although Gujarat are familiar with the stadium conditions, crowd support and pitch dimensions, Sehwag pointed out that finals operate differently from league matches.

“The kind of cricket that RCB are playing, and have been playing, has been quite exceptional. According to me, it is a straight 50-50,” Sehwag said to Cricbuzz.

“This is GT’s home ground, but because it’s a final, they can’t make any pitch that they want, so they won’t get that advantage. Since it’s a final, it will be the BCCI that will prepare the wicket, so it’s a level playing field,” he added.

Qualifier 1 Defeat Still Haunts GT

Royal Challengers Bengaluru enters the IPL 2026 final with strong momentum after crushing Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 earlier this week. Rajat Patidar’s side dominated both innings, piling up a huge total before their bowlers destroyed Gujarat’s chase with ease.

Gujarat Titans bounced back in Qualifier 2 through another solid partnership between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Gill’s century helped GT secure a place in the final against the defending champions. Gujarat must repeat the same aggressive approach from Qualifier 2 to challenge RCB in the final.
