Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal gives up alcohol ahead of IPL 2026 to improve fitness and make a stronger impact for Punjab Kings.

Yuzvendra Chahal has made a significant lifestyle change ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, revealing that he has completely given up alcohol to improve his fitness and performance. The leg-spinner, who will represent Punjab Kings, shared insights into his personal transformation during a conversation with AB de Villiers.

Chahal emphasised his desire to lead by example as a senior player and contribute more effectively to his team’s success.

“I’ve stopped drinking alcohol, and it’s been more than six months. I am now 35, so I want to be more active and give my 150% for my team. As a senior player, I want people in the IPL to learn something from me,” Chahal told De Villiers.

Reflecting On Punjab Kings’ Near-Miss

Punjab Kings enjoyed a strong campaign in IPL 2025 but fell just short in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Chahal pointed to the absence of key all-rounder Marco Jansen as a crucial factor in their narrow defeat.

“In the final, we missed (Marco) Jansen as he was not there. If he were there, we would have definitely won the championship,” Chahal told AB de Villiers on his YouTube show.

“The way he bowled throughout the tournament was brilliant, and batting too, he was capable of hitting two to three sixes in the end. We are even more confident now because of the way he is bowling. It’s not going to be easy for the opposition openers,” he added.

Injury Struggles and Determination

Chahal also opened up about the physical challenges he faced during the latter stages of the tournament, which impacted his performance in crucial matches. Injuries prevented him from delivering at his best, leaving him determined to return stronger in the upcoming season.

“I was a bit disappointed with myself. After the KKR game, I had a rib fracture, and later, my knuckle got fractured. So in the semifinal and final, I wasn’t able to bowl my proper leg-spin. This year, I want to take care of my body first,” he said.

With renewed focus and improved fitness, Chahal will aim to play a pivotal role for Punjab Kings as they look to go one step further in IPL 2026.
