Aakash Chopra Accuses Brendon McCullum of Making a ‘Mockery of Test Cricket’

Aakash Chopra criticised Brendon McCullum for saying England were “overprepared” after their heavy Brisbane defeat, arguing that the team skipped key match practice.

Renowned commentator Aakash Chopra delivered strong criticism of England head coach Brendon McCullum after the team slipped 0-2 behind in the Ashes. England suffered an eight-wicket defeat in Brisbane.

Chopra argued that England missed the chance to prepare when they skipped the two-day game against the Prime Minister’s XI during the 11-day break. He felt the decision to rest senior players contributed to another rapid defeat in the pink-ball Test. Chopra also questioned the impact of England’s aggressive style under McCullum, stating that their approach in both matches showed poor match readiness.

“Brendon McCullum was asked about the preparation after the Test match loss. He said they were overprepared, and the entire world lost it. A match was happening and you were not letting your guys play. There was only one match in the gap, but you didn’t play,” Chopra lashed out on his YouTube channel.

“You come and swing the bat, try to hit sixes, lose one match in two days and the second match in four days, and then you say you were overprepared. How does it actually work? Has it not become slightly ridiculous? You have made a slight mockery of Test cricket,” he added.

England now trail 0-2 as they prepare for the third Test beginning December 17 at the Adelaide Oval.
