Former Delhi and Railways cricketer Abhay Sharma is reportedly set to join Lucknow Super Giants as their fielding coach for IPL 2026. The 56-year-old has previously worked with India’s U19 and women’s teams and recently coached Uganda during their maiden World Cup campaign. Abhay was part of the Indian women’s setup when Harleen Deol’s boundary catch against England gained global attention.

Lucknow, who finished seventh in the past two IPL seasons after reaching the playoffs in their debut years, are undergoing a staff revamp ahead of the new season.

Notably, Lucknow Super Giants have strengthened their support staff for IPL 2026, naming Tom Moody as director of cricket and New Zealand legend Kane Williamson as strategic director. The franchise will continue under the leadership of Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer.

According to PTI, Abhay Sharma joins as fielding coach, bringing vast experience. He has previously mentored players like Pant, Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel, Avesh Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Abhay was part of India’s U19 setup during the 2016, 2018, and 2020 World Cups and also served at the National Cricket Academy. His recent assignment as Uganda’s head coach saw him guide the team through their T20 World Cup qualifying campaign in Africa.
