Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will return to the SA20 League. He replaces Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam at Durban’s Super Giants for the 2025-26 season. The franchise had signed Taijul for R500,000 at September’s mega auction, but the left-arm spinner is now unavailable.
Williamson made his SA20 debut with DSG last season. He was released earlier this year despite being their top run-scorer. The experienced batter scored 233 runs in eight matches. He averaged 46.60 with a strike rate of 118.87. Despite his efforts, the team finished at the bottom of the table.

The Global Franchise Role
The 35-year-old’s return continues his involvement in global franchise cricket. Last month, he was appointed strategic advisor for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. Earlier this year, he also made his debut in The Hundred and returned to England’s Vitality Blast after seven years.
In June, Williamson signed a casual agreement with New Zealand Cricket. This gave him more flexibility to play in overseas leagues. The veteran batter recently retired from T20 international cricket.
Next SA20 season, Williamson will reunite with marquee players like Noor Ahmad, Sunil Narine, and Jos Buttler. Durban’s Super Giants hope his leadership and consistency can inspire a team turnaround.
