ICC suspended Cricket Canada with immediate effect over serious governance breaches while allowing players and teams to continue competing.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Cricket Canada with immediate effect after identifying serious governance and administrative breaches during a recent ICC Board meeting in Ahmedabad. Despite the action, the ICC confirmed that Canada’s men’s and women’s national teams will continue competing in international events.
The governing body also assured players that ongoing programmes and financial support would continue through a controlled funding system supervised directly by ICC management.
“To support the continued participation and development of the national teams, Cricket Canada will be permitted to access ICC funding through a controlled funding mechanism, under the oversight of ICC management, solely for approved national team programmes,” the ICC said.
Cricket Canada recently came under heavy scrutiny after allegations involving selection pressure and attempted match-fixing surfaced in a leaked conversation featuring former coach Khurram Chohan. The ICC has also been investigating Canada’s T20 World Cup match against New Zealand.
