India Face Selection Worry as Abhishek Sharma Hospitalised | Reports

Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with a stomach infection ahead of India vs Namibia T20 World Cup 2026 clash, making him doubtful for selection.

India opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with a stomach infection and may miss the T20 World Cup group match against Namibia on Thursday. A report in Dainik Jagran stated he felt unwell even before the USA game. His condition worsened after that match. Doctors treated him for a high fever and gave him intravenous fluids. He skipped practice at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said the batter still has a stomach infection, but the team hopes he recovers within 2 days. Against the USA, Abhishek fell for a golden duck. He did not field during the innings. Sanju Samson replaced him on the field. A BCCI source told PTI that tests are ongoing.

“Abhi (Abhishek) still has a few issues with his tummy. We are hopeful that he’ll be available for the game in two days’ time,” Doeschate said.

“Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Washington Sundar Joins Squad, Bumrah Returns

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has linked up with the Indian squad. Doeschate confirmed that Sundar joined the team on Monday and will train with the squad. He also shared an update on Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowler has resumed bowling after a 10-day break and feels much better. He will bowl again in the next session.

“Sundar joined the team yesterday, and he will train with the squad today. Bumrah has been bowling after a 10-day break, and he’s feeling a lot better. He’s moving well and will bowl again today,” Doeschate said.

“Thankfully, our captain came good. He’s had an indifferent time over the past year, but that’s why he’s surrounded by good people. His leadership and consistency are evident in the way he played and rescued the team last week,” the coach concluded.
