
Abhishek Sharma fined and handed a demerit point for a Code of Conduct breach despite starring in SRH’s dominant win over KKR.
Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has been penalised by the Indian Premier League authorities following a breach of the Code of Conduct during the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. The incident resulted in Sharma being handed one demerit point along with a fine of 25 per cent of his match fees.
While the exact moment of the violation was not disclosed, the league confirmed that the offence fell under Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct, specifically related to the use of audible obscenities during the game.
In its official release, the IPL stated: “Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
What the Penalty Means for the SRH All-Rounder
Following the sanction, Sharma will forfeit a quarter of his match earnings and carry a demerit point on his disciplinary record. Although Level 1 offences are considered minor, repeated violations could lead to stricter consequences, including possible suspensions in the future.
Despite the disciplinary action, Sharma had an impressive outing with the bat, playing a crucial role in his team’s dominance with a quickfire 48 off just 21 deliveries, showcasing his aggressive intent at the top of the order.
SRH Dominate KKR in Eden Gardens Clash
On the field, Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a commanding performance to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs at Eden Gardens. The innings was set up by a blazing 82-run opening partnership between Travis Head (46) and Abhishek Sharma (48), which came in just 34 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen further strengthened the total with a well-paced 52, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added 39 to power SRH to a formidable 226 for 8.
In reply, KKR failed to build momentum and were bowled out for 161 in 16 overs, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 52 being the lone highlight. The SRH bowling unit was clinical, led by Jaydev Unadkat’s 3/21, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Eshan Malinga chipped in with two wickets each to seal a comprehensive win.
