Adam Gilchrist fondly remembered his first meeting with Rohit Sharma at Adelaide Oval as India battled Australia in the second ODI.
Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist shared a heartwarming memory of Rohit Sharma ahead of India’s second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, evoking nostalgia for cricket fans around the world.
Gilchrist reminisced about his first encounter with the Indian star at this iconic venue back in 2008, just after the IPL auction. “He’s looking and sounding very relaxed. He was reminding me it was on this very venue we first met back in 2008 just after the IPL auction had taken place and we worked out we were gonna be teammates. It was the old bull and the young bull. I was on my way out of international cricket and he was coming in,” Gilchrist recalled.
The legendary Australian was effusive in his praise, highlighting Sharma’s calm and composed approach to the game even after years at the highest level.

India Struggling In The 2nd ODI
The second ODI saw India struggle against a potent Australian attack. Shubman Gill, India’s stand-in captain, was dismissed early by Xavier Bartlett for 9 runs, while Virat Kohli fell for a rare duck, leaving India reeling at 32/2 in the 10th over.
Despite the early setbacks, Rohit Sharma anchored the innings with a measured 29 off 61 balls, supported by Shreyas Iyer’s brisk 20 from 30 deliveries. The duo stitched a 43-run partnership, giving India a small semblance of stability.
Australia’s bowling attack, led by Josh Hazlewood and Bartlett, maintained relentless pressure on the Indian batsmen, keeping the scoring rate in check. Bartlett, in particular, was incisive, picking up two crucial wickets, while Hazlewood bowled economically with figures of 7-2-22-0. Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Owen kept the batsmen on their toes, ensuring India could not dominate the proceedings despite moments of resistance.
