Adam Zampa Calls Spell Against Oman His “Worst-Feeling” Four-For

Adam Zampa took 4/21 and won Player of the Match against Oman, but noted it felt hollow after Australia’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa expressed disappointment despite an excellent spell in his team’s final ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match against Oman. He took 4 wickets for 21 runs in 3.2 overs and earned the Player of the Match award.

However, the win brought little comfort as Australia had already been eliminated in the group stage. Zampa admitted the four-for felt empty because the team was heading home earlier than expected.

“It’s feeling pretty hollow, to be honest. You’d prefer to have the wickets than not, but it’s probably the worst-feeling four-for I’ve ever got. To be sitting here right now, knowing that I’m flying home tomorrow – I didn’t envision this, that’s for sure. So it’s a flat feeling,” Zampa was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

The spinner also reflected on Australia’s recent ICC tournament record. He noted the team has fallen short in recent World events. Despite winning the ODI World Cup in 2023, Australia struggled to make deep runs in other editions.

“I guess we’re renowned for being good tournament player[s and] teams, but I think since we won in 2021 we kind of get through the World Cup really disappointed. In 2022 and 2024 – particularly those two teams I think we probably should have given it a nudge and got close to winning it. You never know what happens in the end of these tournaments. The two teams we had in the last two World Cups in particular, I think really disappointing results,” Zampa added.

Earlier, Australia captain Mitchell Marsh had admitted the dressing room felt deeply disappointed after the early exit. He said the squad prepared for nearly 2 years but failed in key matches. He added that team leaders and Cricket Australia will review the campaign carefully.
