India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was fined after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. The ICC imposed a fine of 15 percent of his match fee.
Match officials ruled that Arshdeep violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule relates to throwing a ball or equipment dangerously toward a player during an international match. The ICC also added 1 demerit point to Arshdeep’s record. This incident marks his first offence in 24 months.

The incident took place during the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings in the T20 World Cup 2026 final. Arshdeep Singh collected the ball in his follow-through and threw it forcefully. The throw struck New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell on the pads.

On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf reported the matter. Third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock also supported the charge. The offence fell under a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. Such violations carry penalties ranging from an official warning to a fine of up to 50 percent of match fees. Officials may also add 1 or 2 demerit points.
Arshdeep accepted the punishment suggested by match referee Andy Pycroft from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel. Officials therefore did not conduct a formal disciplinary hearing.
