R Ashwin Flags MS Dhoni’s IPL 2026 Return Could Disrupt Winning Combination Of CSK

MS Dhoni’s ‘Sheesha Man’ Secret Revealed By Former CSK Teammate

R Ashwin believes MS Dhoni’s IPL 2026 return could disrupt CSK’s settled combination, with only slim chances of a comeback unless a farewell game arises.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed doubts over MS Dhoni featuring in IPL 2026, suggesting that his return could disturb the current balance of Chennai Super Kings. With CSK still in contention for the playoffs, Ashwin believes that altering the settled combination at this stage could prove risky.

The five-time champions are currently placed sixth on the points table with 10 points from 10 matches and remain just two points away from breaking into the top four. With momentum building in the latter half of the tournament, stability in team selection has become crucial.

Ashwin On Team Combination Concerns

Sharing his views, Ashwin stated that Dhoni’s inclusion at this stage may complicate team dynamics.

“If MS Dhoni comes, then the combination will be changed. It becomes very difficult, so I think there are very slim chances [of making a comeback]. If they lose two of their next three games, then he might get a farewell game in Chennai,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin also indicated that a potential farewell appearance could take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, likely during CSK’s final home fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, if the team falls out of playoff contention.

Dhoni Yet To Feature For CSK

Despite being part of the squad, Dhoni has not played a single match this season due to a calf injury. The 44-year-old is widely expected to be nearing the end of his IPL career, making IPL 2026 potentially his final season in CSK colours.

Meanwhile, CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, have found form at a crucial juncture, winning back-to-back matches to stay alive in the playoff race. Their latest victory came against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where they secured a convincing eight-wicket win, strengthening their chances of a late surge into the top four.
