Rising Big Bash Stars Included as Australia Name Squad for Pakistan T20Is

Australia has named a 17-player squad for the Pakistan T20Is, rewarding strong Big Bash League performances while resting Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David.

Australia has selected a 17-member squad for the three-match Pakistan T20Is, scheduled as preparation for the T20 World Cup. The matches will be played in Lahore. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David are not part of the touring group as they continue to manage fitness concerns. The decision gives the trio extra recovery time before the World Cup.

The squad includes several new faces rewarded for strong Big Bash League performances. Perth Scorchers fast bowler Mahli Beardman and Sydney Sixers all-rounder Jack Edwards earn selection despite not yet making their international debuts. Both were part of Australia’s wider white-ball setup during India’s tour earlier this season.

Mitchell Marsh will lead the side. The squad also features Travis Head, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Matt Short, and Adam Zampa. Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell will also join in Colombo after the BBL Knockout. Xavier Bartlett is the only specialist quick touring Pakistan, with Ben Dwarshuis and Sean Abbott providing backup options.

Ten of the 17 Australian players touring Pakistan are also part of the T20 World Cup squad. The three-match T20I series will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on January 29, January 31, and February 1.

Meanwhile, in the T20 World Cup, Australia will play all four group matches in Sri Lanka. They will travel to India for the Super Eight stage only if they qualify.
