Cricket Australia announced a two-Test home series against Bangladesh in northern Australia for August 2026.

Cricket Australia has revealed the fixtures for its home Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled for August 2026. The two-match series will mark the first time since 2003 that Bangladesh will play a Test series on Australian soil.

In a major shift from traditional venues, Cricket Australia has decided to stage the matches at Marrara Stadium in Darwin and the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay instead of the usual Test centres.

Venues For The Bangladesh Series

Darwin will host its first Test since 2004, when Sri Lanka played the opening match of a two-Test series there. Notably, Darwin’s first-ever Test in 2003 also featured Bangladesh.

The Great Barrier Reef Arena will stage its first Test match. So far, the venue has hosted only three men’s international matches, all ODIs. One ODI between India and Sri Lanka in 1992 was washed out, while Australia and South Africa played two ODIs there last year.

The venue has also hosted three Women’s ODIs and two Women’s T20Is, along with several ‘A’ matches. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg welcomed the move to expand Test cricket to northern Australia.

“We’re delighted to bring Test cricket to northern Australia and look forward to a fantastic series against Bangladesh.

“It is no secret the international calendar is now crowded and we’re fortunate to have world class facilities available in August ensuring we have another window for Test cricket outside summer”.

Overall, this will be only the fourth Test series between Australia and Bangladesh. Australia has dominated the rivalry, winning five of the six Tests played so far. Bangladesh’s only victory against Australia came in Mirpur in 2017.
