Axar Patel has been handed a fine of Rs 12 lakh after Delhi Capitals failed to maintain the required over rate during their high-scoring IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.
The Indian Premier League released an official statement confirming the punishment for the Delhi skipper after the match.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs.”
Punjab Kings Post Massive Total In Dharamsala
Batting first, Punjab Kings produced an impressive batting performance to post 210/5 in their 20 overs. Young opener Priyansh Arya provided an explosive start with a quick-fire 56, while captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings brilliantly with an unbeaten 59.
Cooper Connolly also made a valuable contribution with 38 runs to push Punjab beyond the 200-run mark on a batting-friendly surface.

Despite the strong total, Delhi Capitals managed to stay alive in the contest thanks to timely breakthroughs from Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc, who picked up two wickets each.

Delhi Capitals endured a disastrous start to their chase after slipping to 74/4, leaving Punjab Kings firmly in control of the game. However, skipper Axar Patel stepped up under pressure and produced a captain’s knock of 56 runs to revive the innings.
Veteran batter David Miller then joined the fightback with a crucial 51-run contribution as the visitors clawed their way back into the contest.
Youngsters Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari eventually completed the chase with composure as Delhi Capitals reached 216/7 in just 19 overs to secure a dramatic three-wicket victory.

The thrilling win provided a major boost to Delhi Capitals’ fading playoff hopes ahead of their upcoming clash against Rajasthan Royals.
