Ayush Mhatre To Be Ruled Out Of Upcoming CSK Games; Coach Drops Massive Hint

Ayush Mhatre’s hamstring injury adds to CSK’s growing concerns as player set to be ruled out of upcoming games in IPL 2026.

Chennai Super Kings have been dealt another setback in their injury-hit Indian Premier League 2026 campaign, with young batter Ayush Mhatre likely to spend time on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury during their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The injury occurred during CSK’s chase when Mhatre attempted to complete a second run in the fifth over. Midway through the run, he slowed down significantly and appeared in discomfort near the non-striker’s end. Although he managed to make his ground, the physio rushed onto the field immediately to attend to him.

Despite the visible discomfort, Mhatre chose to continue batting. However, his stay at the crease was short-lived as he was dismissed just a couple of deliveries later. Following his dismissal, the youngster was unable to walk off the field on his own and had to be assisted back to the dugout.

Hussey Provides Injury Update, Scan Awaited

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey shared an update on Mhatre’s condition, indicating that the injury could be serious, although further assessment is pending.

“It’s a hamstring tear. Don’t know how bad it is. We’ll scan him probably tomorrow or the next day. I’m not sure, but yes, it looks pretty bad. Unfortunately, he’s going to be a big loss because he has been in nice touch,” Hussey told reporters after the match.

Hussey also highlighted the opportunity this creates for other squad members, adding, “He is an exciting young talent, but it is going to give someone else an opportunity, so that’s exciting as well. We have got some really good players that haven’t gotten an opportunity, so it’s going to be exciting for one of those guys. As much as we are really disappointed to lose Ayush, I don’t know for how long, but it’s exciting for a new player to come in and get a chance,”

CSK’s Struggles Continue Amid Injury Crisis

Mhatre’s injury compounds an already difficult season for CSK. In the same match, the side, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, fell short by 10 runs while chasing a target of 195 against SRH. Mhatre had earlier provided a quick start with 30 runs off just 13 balls, but his dismissal triggered a collapse in the batting lineup.

Gaikwad once again struggled with the bat, scoring only 18 runs, as CSK failed to maintain momentum during the chase. The defeat leaves them languishing in the lower half of the points table with just two wins from six matches.

The franchise is already dealing with multiple injury concerns. Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the remainder of the season, while Nathan Ellis was unavailable even before the tournament began.
