Shreyas Iyer Calls Virat Kohli T20 GOAT, Praises His Consistency

Shreyas Iyer called Virat Kohli the T20 GOAT, citing his consistency and 9700+ runs across IPL and T20Is.

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has backed Virat Kohli as the greatest T20 batter during IPL 2026. Iyer, who remains unbeaten this season, highlighted Kohli’s consistency and longevity while making his choice.

“With the consistency and the amount of cricket he has played throughout, I’d say Virat Kohli,” Shreyas said, when asked to name the greatest T20 batter.

Kohli has scored over 9700 runs across IPL and T20Is and ended a 17-year wait by winning the title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru last year. He continues his strong form this season and leads the Orange Cap chart.

Kohli opened with an unbeaten 69 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and followed it with 28 against Chennai Super Kings as RCB won both matches. He scored 32 against Rajasthan Royals, then hit 50 against Delhi Capitals and an unbeaten 49 against Lucknow Super Giants to guide another win.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings moved to the top of the IPL 2026 table after beating Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Chasing the target, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer controlled the innings with a 139-run stand. Shreyas also made an impact in the field earlier. He made an excellent effort in the deep to dismiss Hardik Pandya and slow Mumbai’s progress.
