Bangladesh have maintained their refusal to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, keeping the tournament in a state of uncertainty. The Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) held a virtual meeting with the ICC to discuss participation in the event, scheduled from February 7 to March 8, and co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
During the discussion, the BCB again raised security concerns and asked for its matches to be moved to neutral venues. However, the ICC stated that its stance remains unchanged despite continued talks. The board also pointed out that the full schedule has already been released and urged Bangladesh to review its position.
Senior BCB officials, including president McAminul Islam and chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, took part in the meeting. Both sides agreed to continue the discussion in the coming days.
“A video conference between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) was held this afternoon to discuss the participation of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Representing the BCB were President Md Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen and Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury,” the media release from BCB read.

“During the discussions, the BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India, citing security concerns. The Board also reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India,” it continued.
“While the ICC highlighted that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and requested the BCB to reconsider its stance, the Board’s position remains unchanged. Both parties agreed that discussions will continue to explore possible solutions. The BCB remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its players, officials and staff while engaging constructively with the ICC to address the matter,” the statement added.
Any venue change at this stage would affect logistics, travel plans, commercial commitments, and fan arrangements.
