The ICC has reportedly rejected Bangladesh’s venue change request for T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India, insisting the team must play in India or risk forfeiting points.
The International Cricket Council(ICC) has reportedly turned down Bangladesh’s venue change request to move their T20 World Cup 2026 matches out of India. The BCB had confirmed on January 4 that it formally approached the ICC seeking a venue change for its Group C fixtures. However, a report published by ESPNcricinfo on January 6 stated that the ICC rejected the proposal.
The decision was conveyed during a virtual meeting held earlier this week. The ICC reportedly cited security assessments as the basis for denying the request. The report added that Bangladesh was informed that they must travel to India to fulfil their fixtures or face the risk of losing points. However, the BCB has maintained that no such warning has been officially communicated.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play four Group C matches in India. Earlier, the BCB had requested a venue change shortly after the Board of Control for Cricket in India directed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman.
The decision to acquire him drew criticism amid reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, with attention also falling on KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan. Rahman, Bangladesh’s leading T20I wicket-taker with over 400 T20 dismissals, was the only player from his country picked in the IPL 2026 auction.
