The BCCI prepared to challenge PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s dual roles at the ICC meeting following the Asia Cup trophy dispute.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing a fresh challenge against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. This follows tensions after the Asia Cup, where the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from him after winning the final.
A list of charges has already been prepared. It remains uncertain whether Naqvi will attend the upcoming ICC meeting. Earlier reports suggested he might miss the event due to ‘domestic political problems’.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, sources revealed the BCCI has prepared a list of charges against Naqvi. The Indian board intends to challenge his eligibility to hold dual public and sporting positions.
Naqvi is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the president of the Asian Cricket Council. He also holds the post of Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The BCCI reportedly contends that Naqvi’s simultaneous roles violate ICC governance regulations.

Afghanistan’s Support
Reports suggest that the BCCI has the backing of the Afghanistan Cricket Board in this matter. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated after a recent military strike that claimed the lives of three Afghan cricketers. In response, Afghanistan withdrew from a tri-series scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
“Afghanistan will support India’s stance, demanding Naqvi relinquish one of his posts. But Naqvi is unlikely to back down,” a source told Telecom Asia Sport.
The report mentioned that Naqvi is preparing to respond to any objections raised by BCCI representatives. This would happen during the upcoming ICC board meeting in Dubai, if he chooses to attend.

An earlier PTI report suggested that Naqvi might skip the meeting. Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed is expected to represent the board in his absence.
On September 28, India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. The Indian cricketers declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his position in the Pakistan Senate.
Naqvi left the venue with the trophy instead of delegating the presentation. Despite several BCCI requests for him to hand it over, he insisted the Indian team should receive it from him.
