According to reports from The Times of India, the BCCI recently intervened during a live IPL match after a former international cricketer was allegedly found recording videos near the team dugout during a tense phase of the game.
“There have been a few breaches by a few commentators,” TOI quoted sources as saying. “One former international cricketer was found making videos on his phone near the dugout in a tense situation of a match. The BCCI team acted swiftly and got him to stop the recording.”
The board reportedly believes such actions can compromise operational protocols around players, officials and team management during live matches.
Legal Action Possible Against Former Cricketers
The report further claimed that the BCCI is considering stricter consequences against individuals violating its media and operational guidelines during IPL 2026.
“There could be a case of sending legal notices to an ex-cricketer who was found filming for his YouTube channel. The board has clearly mentioned that anybody wearing BCCI and IPL official attire can’t be seen filming at the ground,” the sources added.
The BCCI has reportedly become increasingly concerned about content creators and former cricketers filming inside restricted zones while being associated with official broadcast or league duties.
Several commentators and former players have allegedly been reminded by officials not to record videos near players, dugouts or PMOA officials during live matches.
BCCI Concerned Over Growing ‘Reel Culture’ In IPL
The board has also reportedly taken note of the rapid rise of “reel culture” among players and their families during IPL 2026, believing that certain posts may unintentionally reveal sensitive team information.
“The reel culture has led to many violations of late. There are a few Indian players who post videos on match days, just before a match and immediately after the conclusion of the match,” the source said.
According to the report, immediate family members of players have now also been advised against sharing videos or photographs during the IPL season.
