Sam and Tony Curran’s brother, Ben Curran, has joined the Zimbabwe squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 as an injury replacement for Brendan Taylor. Taylor suffered a right hamstring injury during the match against Oman on February 9. The Event Technical Committee approved Curran’s inclusion, as required under tournament rules. The committee includes Wasim Khan, Gaurav Saxena, Hemang Amin, and Shaun Pollock.
In the tournament, Zimbabwe, led by Sikandar Raza, upset Australia by 23 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Zimbabwe posted 169/2 in 20 overs, powered by Brian Bennett’s unbeaten 64. Australia managed 146 in reply. Blessing Muzarabani took four wickets, while Brad Evans picked up three. Matthew Renshaw scored 65 off 44 balls but lacked support. Raza expressed pride in his team’s unity and effort.

“I’m very happy, but above all, I’m very proud, a feeling of a brother who has his younger brother that’s achieving a lot together. So it was nice to watch from outside and see how the team went about their business, the culture, the environment, the unity that we have taken, that we have created over a long time,” he said at the post-match presentation.
Zimbabwe now has 2 wins from 2 matches and sits in a strong position for the Super 8s. Meanwhile, Australia faces added pressure. A loss to Sri Lanka could end their hopes if Zimbabwe defeats Ireland on February 17.
