Several cricket boards have requested the BCCI to schedule additional ODI matches during India’s overseas tours in 2026, aiming to capitalise on the popularity of stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
India already faces a packed calendar in 2026. The schedule may expand further before the ODI World Cup in South Africa next year. Several cricket boards have reportedly requested additional ODI matches during India’s overseas tours.
According to reports from the Indian Express, England, New Zealand, Ireland and Sri Lanka have approached the BCCI with proposals. Extra matches could provide a financial boost for host boards. Interest remains high because Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma feature only in ODI cricket.

Ireland is also exploring the possibility of organising a 3-match series with India during the summer. The fixtures may take place around India’s white-ball tour of England. The series could feature either ODIs or T20Is. England will host India for a limited-overs series scheduled with 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. Officials may still adjust the format. The tour could represent one of the final UK visits for Kohli and Rohit.
India also plans a two-Test series in Sri Lanka in August. One match could be a day-night Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Sri Lanka Cricket has approached the BCCI about adding white-ball fixtures as well. New Zealand will host India later in 2026. The current plan includes 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. New Zealand Cricket has requested 2 additional ODIs for that tour.
Scheduling discussions continue because earlier matches planned for January were postponed. India could also fill gaps created by uncertain tours to Bangladesh and the UAE against Afghanistan.
