Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026 due to a hamstring injury.
Zimbabwe veteran Brendan Taylor has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026 due to a hamstring injury he picked up against Oman in their opening match in Colombo.
Zimbabwe won the match against Oman comfortably; however, concerns regarding Taylor’s fitness persisted, with captain Sikandar Raza even hinting that the injury looked serious. After scans and medical checks, Raza confirmed that the 40-year-old will take no further part in the T20 World Cup 2026.
“We don’t get a lot of bilateral against them. ICC has given us the opportunity and we will look to make the most of it and play good cricket. We have got two changes. Brendan Taylor picked up an injury and he has been ruled out of the tournament. Ngarava misses out,” Sikandar Raza said.
Tadiwanashe Marumani To Take Taylor’s Position
It will indeed be a big blow to Zimbabwe’s campaign, as Brendan Taylor has been a key figure for the national side for many years.
Losing a senior batter in the middle of a World Cup campaign will be a major setback for Zimbabwe, since Taylor’s experience will be sorely missed. There are limited backup wicketkeeping options in the squad, with Tadiwanashe Marumani in contention.
