Australia faced another major blow as allrounder Cameron Green was ruled out of the ODI series against India due to side soreness.
Australia have suffered yet another injury setback ahead of the India ODI series, with 26-year-old allrounder Cameron Green ruled out due to low-grade side soreness. The development could have major implications for the upcoming Ashes series.
Green was officially ruled out of the series on Friday, with Marnus Labuschagne called up as his replacement. Labuschagne will join the Australian squad in Perth after completing the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide on Saturday night, ahead of the first ODI on Sunday.

Green had recently returned to competitive bowling following back surgery last year. He missed the T20I tour of New Zealand to feature in the opening Shield round for Western Australia against New South Wales in Perth last week. Although he was scheduled to bowl eight overs in that match, he managed only four before being restricted by Cricket Australia’s medical staff. They prevented him from bowling on consecutive days as Western Australia’s short innings denied him a full day’s rest between spells.

He was not expected to bowl in the first two ODIs against India but was building up his workload in preparation for round three of the Shield starting October 28. Green was also set to rest during the third and final ODI in Sydney and skip the T20I series that follows to continue his Ashes preparation.
However, after bowling at training this week, Green reported soreness and will now undergo a short rehabilitation program. He is expected to recover in time to play and bowl for Western Australia in their third Shield match against South Australia at the WACA, beginning in 11 days.
The setback adds to Australia’s growing injury list ahead of a crucial home season. The team was counting on Green’s full fitness for the Ashes, but now his availability remains uncertain. Test skipper Pat Cummins’ fitness is also a concern after he admitted earlier this week that he was “less likely than likely” to play in the first Test against England starting November 21 in Perth.
Australia’s other Test allrounder, Beau Webster, is also nursing an ankle injury sustained during training two weeks ago, forcing him to miss Tasmania’s opening two Shield games. Cricket Australia, however, is optimistic about his return for Tasmania’s next match on October 28.
Green’s Absence Will Hurt Australia
Green’s absence further weakens Australia’s ODI setup, which is already missing several first-choice players. The right-hander had recently smashed an unbeaten 118 off 55 balls in Australia’s last ODI against South Africa in August.
World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins is unavailable for the entire India series, while wicketkeeper Josh Inglis will miss at least the first two ODIs due to a calf strain. Spinner Adam Zampa will skip the Perth ODI to stay home in northern New South Wales with his pregnant wife.

Alex Carey, another key member of Australia’s ODI setup, will also miss the Perth game. He will instead play in the Shield match between South Australia and Queensland in Adelaide to prepare for the Ashes.
