Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2026 Fixtures Revealed; Eden Gardens Set for 3 Home Games

Kolkata Knight Riders finally secured their first win of IPL 2026 after a tough start to the season as Varun Chakaravarthy revealed emotional scenes.

Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy opened up about the emotional scenes inside the dressing room after their first win of the Indian Premier League 2026 season against Rajasthan Royals.

KKR had struggled throughout the tournament, going winless in their first six matches, their worst-ever run and were placed at the bottom of the table with just one point from a rain-affected game against Punjab Kings.

Opting to bowl first with an unchanged XI, KKR produced a disciplined bowling performance to restrict Rajasthan Royals to 155 runs. The chase went down to the final over, where a crucial seventh-wicket stand between Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy guided the team home under pressure.

Emotional Scenes Inside Dressing Room

Reflecting on the win, Chakravarthy revealed that the victory meant far more than just two points, as emotions overflowed within the squad.

“Very, very significant. I can tell you I saw many tears in the dressing room today, which we didn’t even see in the year we won the IPL in 2024. The main credit goes to the coaching staff because they didn’t let the outside noise affect us. There were too many people making judgments that were totally baseless. At such times, you need a strong core, and we have that,” said Chakravarthy as quoted by News18.

The win lifted KKR to ninth place in the standings, although they have played one more game than the tenth-placed Mumbai Indians.

Chakravarthy Leads Comeback Amid Injury Crisis

Chakravarthy played a key role in the victory, delivering a match-winning spell of 3 for 14 to earn the Player of the Match award. His performance came at a time when KKR’s bowling unit was under immense pressure due to the absence of key pacers like Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Matheesha Pathirana, and Mustafizur Rahman.

“We started this tournament with many injuries and it actually crippled us even before it began, So I would like to give credit to the coaches, especially Abhishek Nayar. If you’re taking up a team in such conditions, you need a lot of courage. He has taken up the team in a very tough situation. Slowly, step by step, one win here, one win there, we will be back on track,” said Chakravarthy.
